"Adalaj Stepwell Blue & Gold" mixed media on cradle board (acrylics, molding paste, acrylic pens) $175 10" x 10" 2015
A version depicting the stepwell, painted from my sketch. This 16th century or even older stepwell in the state of Gujarat, India, has elaborately carved and decorated wide stairs that descend into a cool dim cavelike area with a roof supported by huge pillars. There is the well, a pool flowing from its invisible source, echo-y and mysterious. Lots of mosquitoes, blessed relief from the hot sun for the sketch artist, strong aroma of ganja, many visitors including classes of schoolkids, fruit and snack vendors at the entrance.
