"Blue Diu Fort" acrylics, molding paste, graphite on cradle board $175 10" x 10" 2015
Diu Fort is a romantic-looking fortress built out in the bay of the town of Diu, which was owned by the Portuguese until the 1960s, although it is in the state of Gujarat, India. It's on the Indian Ocean, lots of colorful wooden fishing boats and crazy architecture. This is a version of a sketch of the pier to Diu Fort in the harbor, overlapping to represent many layers of history as the fort was rebuilt, crumbled and rebuilt. Acrylic molding paste is wonderful for thick texturing, mimicking the rough lime-and-sandstone. There was an encampment nearby of people still making the bricks by hand.
