"Coral Diu Fort" mixed acrylic pens and paint, gold paint on cradle board. $175 10" x 10" 2015
Diu Fort is a romantic-looking fortress built out in the bay of the town of Diu, which was owned by the Portuguese until the 1960s, although it is in the state of Gujarat, India. It's on the Indian Ocean, lots of colorful wooden fishing boats and crazy architecture. This is a version of my sketch painted on wood. Looking out at the calm sunny harbor of the now-resort town, fishing boats and vacationers coming and going, couldn't help thinking on the time when this was a military defense post occupied by Portuguese soldiers. The colors reflect that more violent time. As everywhere in India, the deep past exists in the same space as the high tech, leisuretime present.
